To increase the potential Hispanic representation in STEAM careers, as well as the economic security and advancement of Hispanic Central Texans, Thinkery and El Buen Samaritano will leverage their partnership, individual expertise, and shared missions to provide, for the first time, kindergarten ready, educational programming for low-socioeconomic status Hispanic client/families of El Buen Samaritano. By coordinating directly with El Buen service providers and staff, El Buen and Thinkery will facilitate El Buen client/families enrollment in and engagement with the Thinkery learning experiences in order to support the early childhood development of El Buen’s youngest clients and increase their families capacity to support that development.
Thinkery, an evolution of the Austin Children’s Museum, is a place where science and families play side by side. Where people connect with ideas by doing, making and experiencing. It’s a foundry for a new generation of innovators and creative problem solvers. And it’s a heck of a good time.
As a leading provider of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) educational exhibits, programming and outreach opportunities, our research-backed, play-based programs and activities serve as an enrichment to formal classroom education. On average, more than 1,200 children and families walk through our doors each day—that’s 450,000+ visitors every year.
Thinkery strives to be a friendly and inclusive space for children and families to play and learn together—both inside the museum and out in the community. Ensuring that our door is always open—and that our hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences are accessible to all ages, abilities and backgrounds—is crucial to the museum’s mission of equipping and inspiring the next generation of creative problem solvers.
